Hunting Rules In New Mexico For 2016-17

Are you planning a hunting trip for this year or next?

Be prepared because the rules and regulations have changed for Santa Fe.  You can find the new rules for applying for your hunting license online here.

If you live in the area and would like a printed version of the 2016-2017 hunting rules and information booklet, they will be available at license vendors and Game and Fish Department area offices shortly.

The booklet will include all the information hunters need to apply for and purchase big-game and small-game hunting licenses and permits.

We encourage all hunters to review season dates, application deadlines, and other information before applying for licenses or going afield.

There are hunting opportunities in New Mexico that cannot be found anywhere else. If you are planning on hunting with us in 2016 or 2017, now is the time to begin putting in your applications.

Dates for upcoming Elk, Merriam Spring Turkey, Bear, Cougar, Mule Deer, Antelope, and Oryx are available now on our rates and dates page.

The department is accepting online applications now and the application deadline for bear and turkey permits is February 10, 2016. The application deadline for big-game licenses is March 23, 2061.

If you hunted last season, be sure to file your harvest for deer, elk, pronghorn antelope and turkey reports before applying again.

The deadline for this is February 15, 2016. If you do not file by that date there will be late fees applied.

New rules this season include a 50 percent discount off licenses, permits, and stamps for eligible active duty military and veteran applicants.

Elk and turkey licenses for the Valles Caldera National Preserve now are available through the draw.
